Where happiness lies?
A question with no absolute answer. There are various rejoinders in public by various philosophers and thinkers and they seemed to be pretty confident about it. Here I am, adding my thoughts to the collection. No, no am not a philosopher or a thinker or someone qualified but I have my views because I am an independent entity. Happiness lies in being independent. If I am independent enough to let the world hear my words and thoughts, I am chuffed. But no, being independent is not the only measurement of happiness. The thing is, you cannot fathom happiness. It’s not a physical quantity or something. Yeah yeah, time and temperature are also not physical quantities but happiness is a feeling. A sensation. An emotion. And am quite certain that you cannot really appraise something we commonly call happiness. Or can you?
Each individual have their own parameters of happiness which is unaccountable. Varies person to person. Quite similar in everyone yet different. Didn’t understand what the previous sentence meant? Don’t worry, not your problem. Told you, its unaccountable. It’s strange how one can find happiness and get amused and fascinate themselves in smallest of the things which might or might not be entertained by the other.
However there are certain things common.
Happiness is not something for you to set on a journey and meander hills to ravines or not something to find in the deep of an ocean or any such place. Its everywhere. Count on me. You can find happiness in unexpectedly minor things. And that kind of happiness is something different.
Well, once I was cycling round the new stadium near my place. I was thinking ’bout some tuition work and was pressuring myself. I was in speed. Just a narrow path came and I saw a relatively tall man walking on the path, hand in hand with a child, probably a girl, at a distance. I slowed down my two-wheeled vehicle considering I might hurt them if I don’t. Distance collapsed. I was right. That was a girl. Maybe she was two. Okay, maybe two and a half. It seemed she had recently discovered how to walk. She had a cute radiant white and glowing face and extra adorable tiny feet with which she was struggling to walk properly. She beamed at me with intense joy and blissfulness. Her eyes were buoyant and she was bouncing in happiness which she was considering walking. Her father ( I guessed he was her father ) was holding her left hand in support. I was dead slow. I couldn’t get my eyes off from that cute little joyous creature who had her eyes on me at that moment. She then waved a Hi at me and I couldn’t resist to wave back. My face just lit up, so full of delight. I forgot all my worries and pressure released. My stress journeyed away from me. That girl unknowingly caused miracle and I found happiness. Yes. That was totally a different kind of pleasure I could feel. So, many a times one can get happiness from unknown and unexpected sources.
For some happiness lies in objects. I ask you. Is it so? Can happiness be found in non living materials? Well, most of you will straight away reply with a “No” and that because you think this is not real happiness. This won’t last. Or maybe you think material love is not happiness. Am sorry buds, but you’re wrong. I never said happiness should last long. In fact you cannot over joy at one thing for a long time. If it brings you happiness then yes, it lies in objects too. No matter how big or how small it is unless sentiments are attached to it. Something you buy from your first earnings is happiness. For me it was a music CD of my favourite band. And I was happy because I had sentiments attached to it. For a wannabe model its her designer dresses. For a chess player, a new chess set. Although he knows it wont affect his game or anything but it gives him happiness. For Einstein happiness was a table, a chair, a bowl of fruits and a violin. My sister gave me her favourite pen on my birthday which was really dear to her ( I don’t know why ). It wasn’t expensive I know but the think that she gave off her “favourite” pen to me! was happiness. And that is important. So yeah! Happiness lies in objects too and there is nothing bad about it.
Coca-cola says “Open happiness“. Are they wrong? Isn’t happiness lies in coca cola? Am asking you. Don’t you feel merriment when you’ve been offered a bottle or a can of coke? I know, right?
Other happiness might include various things. For a gamer, happiness lies in setting up a new high-score. For a son sleeping on his mum’s laps. For an artist to see his works get praised. For a magician to see his audience amazed. For a nerd finishing one phenomenal book and moving on to the next one. For a father, in losing a game against his son which once he taught him.
Happiness is street food. It is a pile of leaves you can jump on. It is the package you ordered online waiting at your doorstep. It is when you score a goal in a match of football. Happiness is when your boyfriend writes a poem dedicated to you. It is when you help an elderly person to walk across the street. Happiness is when you’ve found a place to pee where there is none. It is finding shade in a sweltering summer noon. Happiness is seeing your parents happy and the reason being you. Happiness is walking in your best friend’s house as if you live there. It is running a blog like this. Happiness is having readers like you. Look! I can go on counting like this as you can go on counting the stars. You might even get a break during daylight but I can keep on counting. If you try to look for reasons of happiness, let me enlighten you, there are infinite. And infinite, my friend, isn’t a small quantity.
How to find happiness is an enigmatic process. It just happens! Its magic! You don’t need to wonder how it happened. It wonders you.
Some people tend to be happier than the others, but wait! How can you determine that you’re less happy? I told you its not fathomable! Well its because you think that, that person is happier and this is really what makes you think he/she is happier than you and the day you start thinking that YOU are a happy person, I assure you my friend, you’ll be happier than the majority of the population.
Happiness is self made.
It is always knocking on your door and you just gotta let it in.
“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
